It's official - I biked all the way from my NE Portland house across the Broadway bridge, through the Pearl and right up to City Hall where I submitted my paperwork to the Elections Office to run for District 2 (don't know about Portland's new districts? Click here). Emory - my wonderful Campaign Manager - made the journey with me and my family + communications strategist Olive met us there.
Biking there was significant because a huge part of my campaign is centered on supporting Bikers and building safer roads for all Portlanders. We must make progress on Vision Zero and reduce the senselessly high number of traffic deaths in this city.
It meant so much to me that my family was there with me because I know they understand that taking on a position like city councilor is not simple or stress-free.
But there are real changes we need in City Hall and the introduction of districts + ranked choice voting means that folks like me (who aren't backed by big money donors or corrupt industries lobbyists) can finally throw their hat (or helmet) into the race.
