If I’ve learned one truth about Portlanders it’s this: we are creative and independent people. We take care of our neighbors, lift each other up, and love our time outdoors. But that doesn’t mean things are always easy.
Our city needs major improvements. Housing is too expensive. Houselessness is endemic. We don’t have a strong safety net for people who are struggling, and temperatures are rising due to climate change. We are better than this.
I am running for Portland City Council in District 2 because we need courageous city leadership. Leadership rooted in community, grounded in good government, and powered by our progressive values.
We all want to feel proud when we say we are from Portland. It is our home. As your city council member, I will represent each and every one of us — our needs, hopes, and worries — and I will work with you to make Portland a place where everyone can live, work, and retire with dignity.
I have a little bit of hope for our future because I believe in Portlanders and the power of democracy. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “The time is always right to do what is right.” The time is now.
People are the key to changing the trajectory of our city. Thanks to the Portland small dollar donors program, if you make your first donation to our campaign today at the $5 mark, it becomes $50 in our campaign accounts. It's an incredible opportunity for us to ensure a progressive slate in the 2024 Portland City Council that actually embodies the values of this city.
Think global, but act local. With gratitude, Marnie Glickman
